SKYNIGHT continues to expand its equipment fleet with the addition of the Kyalami from AYRTON, a new benchmark designed for demanding lighting designs, precise graphic effects, and technical environments where equipment reliability makes all the difference.
Fresh off the truck at our facility, this new projector has already been put to the test in a real-world setting during its first assignment for RTS, on the set of the show “On connaît la chanson”. It was the perfect setting to test its capabilities, evaluate its performance, and assess its potential in a television production context.
At the request of the cinematographer Marc Ravy, the SKYNIGHT teams installed 10 Kyalami projectors on set. This first use proved successful, with lighting results that met expectations and very positive feedback from the crews on site.
A new lighting product now available from SKYNIGHT
The addition of the Kyalami to the SKYNIGHT inventory is part of a simple goal: to continue offering our customers and partners the latest, high-performance technical solutions tailored to today’s lighting design needs.
In the event industry, live entertainment, TV studios, and temporary installations, expectations are changing rapidly. Producers are looking for systems that are more compact, more precise, and more creative—but also more reliable under a variety of operating conditions.
The Kyalami embodies this philosophy perfectly. It’s not just another projector in a lighting rig. It’s a creative tool capable of delivering a strong visual signature, thanks in particular to its very narrow beam, its laser source, and its wide range of effects.
For SKYNIGHT, incorporating this type of equipment expands the possibilities available to lighting designers, cinematographers, set designers, and production teams.
AYRTON's Kyalami: a compact, precise, and creative projector
Developed by AYRTON, the Kyalami is part of the brand’s Creative Solution series. It embodies the spirit of the MagicDot concept while adapting it to phosphor laser technology.
Its compact size is one of its strengths. With a diameter of just 265 mm, the projector houses a 100 W laser module, its cooling system, and its optics. This miniaturization makes it possible to envision dense configurations, with multiple units installed close to one another.
This feature is particularly useful for stage setups where space is limited but the visual impact must remain strong. On a TV set, a performance stage, or an event installation, the space-saving design makes it easier to integrate equipment while opening the door to a wider range of effects.
The Kyalami also stands out for its highly precise beam. Its native angle of 1° allows it to produce sharp, fine, and very distinct lines of light. This precision offers particularly striking results when it comes to sculpting space, creating graphic light patterns, or accentuating a visual atmosphere.
A projector designed to create visible, structured lighting effects
The Kyalami isn't just designed to provide light. Above all, it's designed to shape light.
Its three-element optical system, combined with a front lens measuring 126 mm, gives it a distinctive visual signature. The beam is narrow, intense, and particularly well-suited for volumetric effects. In an environment with smoke or haze, it creates striking lines of light that stand out prominently in the space.
This capability is invaluable for productions that want to go beyond functional lighting. The projector can become a graphic element in its own right, integrated into the set design or the visual language of an event.
Among Kyalami's highlights are:
- a native beam of 1°, ideal for precise, graphic effects;
- a phosphor laser source designed to provide stable light output;
- a rated power of 400,000 lux at 10 meters ;
- a color mixing system CMY ;
- a color wheel with corrective filters and complementary colors;
- 29 fixed metal gobos to shape the beam;
- two combinable rotating prisms;
- two frost filters, one light and one dense;
- continuous rotation of the pan and tilt;
- protection IP65, suitable for a variety of operating conditions.
This combination of tools makes it a highly versatile projector, capable of producing subtle, dynamic effects suited to a wide variety of contexts.
First use on the RTS set
For this first appearance, the Kyalami cars were featured on the set of the show “On connaît la chanson”, produced by RTS.
This type of environment is particularly well-suited for testing a new projector. A TV studio set requires a precise balance between aesthetics, technical efficiency, and filming constraints. The lighting must be visible, controlled, and consistent with the set design, while still meeting the requirements of the image.
The installation of 10 Kyalami projectors allowed us to evaluate their performance in a real-world professional setting: beam quality, movement precision, graphic rendering, integration into the existing setup, and ability to enhance the lighting design.
The tests were successful. The results met the expectations of cinematographer Marc Ravy and his teams, confirming the value of this new projector for television productions and demanding stage environments.
A tool designed for TV studios, stages, and events
Thanks to its compact size, highly concentrated beam, and wide range of effects, the Kyalami is suitable for a variety of projects.
On a TV set, it can help structure the space, create luminous backdrops, highlight the set design, or add movement to the image. Its precision allows for sharp beams that can be easily integrated into a lighting design tailored for the camera.
In live performance, it can be used to enhance visual scenes, accompany musical sequences, or create graphic effects synchronized with the rhythm of a show.
In the events industry, it can add a more spectacular element to a stage design, particularly at corporate events, product launches, conventions, festivals, or public events.
Its protection rating IP65 is also a major advantage. This feature allows for use in more demanding environments, particularly when technical conditions require robust and protected equipment.
A new creative opportunity for SKYNIGHT customers
The inclusion of Kyalami in the SKYNIGHT lighting park opens up new possibilities for future projects.
Each new piece of equipment is selected to meet specific needs: improving the quality of services, offering more creative possibilities, and addressing specific client requests. The Kyalami enhances this approach with a focus on graphic effects, precise light beams, and striking visual results.
For the SKYNIGHT teams, this new projector is another tool to fuel their creativity. For clients, it offers a new solution to add more depth, rhythm, and character to their events or productions.
This first successful use with RTS already confirms its potential in the field.
SKYNIGHT continues to invest in high-performance technical solutions
Since 1985, SKYNIGHT has been supporting events, productions, and audiovisual projects with one consistent goal: to provide reliable, tailored, and scalable technical solutions.
The addition of the AYRTON Kyalami to our lighting inventory is part of this ongoing effort. It reflects our commitment to keeping pace with industry developments, incorporating the latest technologies, and providing our customers with tools capable of meeting today’s lighting design needs.
Following a successful debut on the RTS set, the Kyalami is now available at SKYNIGHT to support new projects.
A new compact, precise, and creative tool, ready to make light stand out even more.
