A major end-of-year party for a Geneva-based shipping company at PALEXPO

MSC Evening by Skynight

For more than a decade, SKYNIGHT has been assisting a Geneva-based shipping company with the design and technical implementation of its internal end-of-year events. This long-standing collaboration is based on a relationship of trust and a precise understanding of the client's expectations.

The evening was held in Hall 1 of PALEXPO, an iconic venue for events in Geneva. This large-capacity space offers numerous staging possibilities, but also presents significant technical constraints due to its size and acoustics.

For this new edition, the goal was to offer a consistent and controlled technical production capable of transforming the venue while meeting the quality, safety, and comfort requirements expected for this type of event.

An event designed for sophistication and elegance

For this end-of-year party, expectations were clear. The goal was to deliver a technical solution that was both sophisticated and discreet, capable of supporting the event without ever overshadowing the guests' experience.

The elegance of the final result depended as much on the technical choices as on the way each element was integrated into the space. The cleanliness of the installations, the visual consistency, and the balance between sound, light, and image were the focus of constant attention throughout the project.

In a large-scale environment such as PALEXPO, this quest for harmony requires a rigorous approach, where every detail counts, from the installation of equipment to the finishes visible to the public.

PALEXPO: a venue with specific technical constraints

Hall Halle 1 at PALEXPO offers a large space designed to host large-scale events. However, this scale imposes specific technical constraints, particularly in terms of acoustics, distance management, and content readability for all participants.

The sound system was therefore carefully designed to ensure even coverage throughout the venue, while maintaining a comfortable level of comfort for this type of event. The installation of the equipment also had to take into account safety, traffic, and visibility requirements, which are essential in a venue that welcomes large crowds.

In this context, each technical choice contributes to the overall balance of the system. Mastering these constraints is essential to transforming a vast, raw space into a coherent, functional, and pleasant environment for the duration of the event.

Comprehensive and integrated technical production

To meet the challenges of the location and the client's expectations, SKYNIGHT deployed a comprehensive technical production, designed as a coherent whole rather than a juxtaposition of solutions.

The system was based in particular on:

  • a large-scale sound system, with over 110 speakers and around 30 subwoofers,

  • a large lighting system, combining nearly 300 projectors, around 100 Titan Tubes, and autonomous LED lights,

  • A 14-meter by 6-meter LED wall, combined with a state-of-the-art 4K video control room, a VJing device, a camera set, and a modern intercom system.

  • all structures, rigging, stage, and curtains, enabling the complete transformation of Hall 1,

  • special attention was paid to decorative elements, particularly floral arrangements, which contributed to the overall atmosphere of the evening.

Each component has been integrated into an overall concept, with the aim of ensuring a fluid reading of the space and visual and technical continuity throughout the event.

Coordination, rigor, and teamwork

The implementation of a project of this scale relies above all on precise organization and close coordination between the various trades involved. Each phase of the project was planned to ensure smooth progress, from assembly to operation and then dismantling.

The editing took place over four days, with up to fifty technicians working daily, each working within a defined area. Once everything was installed, the evening's operations were handled by fifteen technicians, who ensured that everything ran smoothly and that the installations remained stable. The dismantling, spread over two days, involved teams of the same size.

Beyond the numbers, this collective effort relies on the teams' experience, communication between the control rooms, and the ability to anticipate necessary adjustments. This operational rigor is essential to ensure the continuity of the show and meet the demands of an event of this nature.

A trusted partnership

The success of this evening also depends on close collaboration between all stakeholders. SKYNIGHT supported SWISS EVENTS AGENCY (Thomas Million), based in Chêne-Bourg, with the technical implementation of the event, working directly with the shipping company's teams.

This joint effort is part of a relationship of trust built up over the years, based on a shared understanding of the challenges, constraints, and expectations specific to this type of production. Coordination with PALEXPO's general services also played a key role in ensuring that operations ran smoothly, both upstream and on site.
